Universal Error: Exposing the Lies of the universalism Doctrine
(By Tom Tompkins)
Let's face it, satan is obviously not the brightest bulb in the chandelier. After all, he made an attempt to over throw the Lord and we all know where that got him. While he is not too intelligent, he is smart enough to know that he should never poison something that people will stay away from. After all, if a person wanted to kill another, they would not poison a piece of dog poop and then try to get their potential victim to eat the poop. Instead, they would poison a steak or a souffle.
In essence, the devil has tempted many Christians to buy into different belief systems and methods that may seem Godly, spiritual, and appropriate in their nature. The problem is that their foundation is not based on the accuracy of the Word of God and in many cases are not based on the Word of God at all. Further more, all of these practices do not involve faith, which is the foundation of the Christian life when properly understood and applied.
Keep in mind, faith is based on things unseen (Hebrews 11:1). In other words, our five senses have nothing to do with faith.
When we believe something according to faith, it should be based on the truth of God's Word and not on the words of a person who has presented a belief or doctrine of which there are no consequences no matter what a person's choices may be. Keep in mind, if a belief or value is based upon natural things, there is no need for in depth research on the part of those who may adhere to such things. Some have proclaimed to spend many years search the Bible concerning a certain topic. At the end of their research, many have changed their beliefs. In such cases, I believe these people had already made their mind up and were simply seeking to find a way to proclaim what they wanted to believe to be based on scripture.
So, what exactly is this universalism and where did it gain its origins? Hang on to your hat! The answers to these two question will floor you!
WHAT IS UNIVERSALISM AND WHAT ARE ITS ORIGINS?
Just as is the case with Gnosticism, universalism is meant to bring unity among all religions throughout the world.
In simplest terms, universalism is a belief system that includes any and all religions and people being united as one. In fact, universalism is based on the belief that all people, whether they profess Jesus as Lord or not, will be redeemed from any sort of eternal punishment. In other words, all people will be saved contrary to whether or not they placed their faith in Jesus by believing in their heart and confessing with their mouth that He is Lord and God raised Him from the dead (Hebrews 10:9). In other words, there is more than one way to heaven.
In addition, universalism gained its initial roots based upon muslim influence.
Please feel free to pause for a few moments in order to catch your breath and realize that you read the above sentence correctly. Yes, universalism is rooted in the muslim religion.
universalism was first brought to light by a man named George de Benneville.  de Benneville was a French immigrant who was highly influenced by muslim moorish sailors. In essence, the muslim influence upon universalism is based upon mysticism.
Mysticism is a system based upon whatever makes sense to the soul (mind, will, and emotions), but involves absolutely no faith whatsoever. This explains why those who fall under the guise of universalism are so difficult to reach with the truth of God's Word.
Let's face the facts. It is much easier to live based upon what makes sense to our soul as opposed to walking by faith and trusting in what we cannot see, taste, hear, etc.
Romans 10:17, "So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God."
Remember, faith does not come by experiencing or feeling.
While some universalists look to scripture to back up what they believe, they are doing so without using faith. This has lead to error on the part of many. It's as easy as simply finding a scripture verse, which contain the word, "all", and then proclaiming that it means all will be saved. For example, 1 Timothy 4:9-11 is commonly used to proclaim that God will eventually save all men. However, if we pay close attention to what we read in 1 Timothy 4:10 it is so obvious that a blind man with his eyes shut can see who will be saved.
"For to this end we both labor and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of THOSE WHO BELIEVE."
Yes, Jesus is indeed the savior of all, but this does not mean all will believe on Him as their savior.
Ephesians 2:8-9, "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast."
Remember, grace is a free gift from God, but as is the case with all gifts; it must be received by its potential recipient. In the case of the grace of God, which brings salvation, it must be received by faith. If grace were all it took for a person to spend eternity in Heaven, then it would be safe to say all will be saved, but unless grace and faith are mixed together, salvation is simply not possible.
The main underlying cause and issue of universalism has to do with unity. This may sound like a wonderful thing; however, it truly is not.
CAUSE AND EFFECT
The true purpose of this belief system is to show that "all" people will eventually be saved and spend eternity in heaven. There are numerous beliefs concerning this matter. Some proclaim there is no hell, while others proclaim hell is temporal. I once had a man who has spent his entire life in church, including several years in Bible Quiz, tell me that the only people who will spend eternity in hell are those who would have been tempted in heaven.
Imagine that! God cannot be tempted with evil nor does He tempt any man (James 1:13-14). If the Word of God means anything to us at all, we should know that temptation is non-existent in Heaven. Sadly, the point and purpose of universalism is subtle and sounds good when we filter its foundations through our five senses. However, if faith is not involved in what we believe about God, we are sure to be in error. As was the case with my friend, who had proven himself to be easily swayed in what he believes, so too are many other people.
Keep in mind, mixing many belief systems together will result in the same issue seen in Deuteronomy chapter 27 when, via the direction of Moses, one group of Israelites went to Mount Gerizim to speak blessings while the other group went to Mount Ebal to speak curses. The problem with bringing multiple belief systems together is that it mixes blessings and curses. This simply does not turn out well.
What universalism is attempting to do is build a bridge between the two mountains, thus mixing the blessings and curses together. Remember, blessings are meant for born-again believers, but curses are not meant by God to be on any born-again believer.
SALVATION IS BY CHOICE ALONE!
I once had a professing universalist tell me that she did not allow the Bible to get in the way of what she believes. After a lengthy conversation with this particular woman, this became so obvious that a blind man with his eyes shut could see it.
It is nearly impossible if not completely impossible to minister truth to those who have bought into this lie. In fact, there was a man on my Facebook friends list who seemed to enjoy reading my scripturally based posts, but I always sensed a worldliness about him. I never put much thought into this, but one day he revealed why he seemed to be worldly as opposed to operating in the freedom, joy, and truth that comes with salvation. I discovered that he was a universalist. While he boldly proclaimed to not claim the title of universalist, he did indeed embrace the doctrine of this muslim based belief system.
If the Bible stands in the way of what we believe, we should have absolutely no problem seeing that salvation is only by choice (Ephesians 2:8). We could literally fill pages upon pages with scripture verses speaking of the fact that salvation is available for all, but will not be received by all.
The Bible is clear concerning the fact that Jesus is the savior of all who believe (1 Timothy 4:10). We can also see that it is God's desire and will for all people to be saved.
2 Peter 3:9, "The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance."
While it is God's will for all to be saved, Jesus prophesied that all would not be saved.
Matthew 7:13-14, "Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14 Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it."
Some have said that the words of Jesus spoken in Matthew 7:13-14 only applied to the Old Covenant. However, we must keep in mind that those words were a prophecy of things to come under the New Covenant, a time in which salvation became available unlike all time before Jesus hung on the Cross.
In addition, it is not uncommon for those who profess universalistic belief to proclaim God to always get His way. If you believe this way, I have a  question for you.
According to Genesis 2:17, God's way was for man to not eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. However, if we read Genesis chapter 3, we will see that man indeed ate of the tree. Did God get His way in this mater?
This is just one example of many in which God's will did not automatically come to pass.
THE BOTTOM LINE
The bottom line to universalism is simple. Its purpose is to bring all into unity with one another, no matter what religion they may profess. This is the groundwork of a one world government and one world religion.
Can you see the truth concerning this matter? Remember, the foundation of universalism, which is being embraced by many professing Christians, is of a religion that is anything but Godly.
It is important that we remember that Jesus did not come to bring unity among those living in the World.
Matthew 10:34-39, "Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword. 35 For I have come to 'set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law'; 36 and 'a man's enemies will be those of his own household.'[e] 37 He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. 38 And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. 39 He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it."
This may come as a shock to many, but Jesus did not come to bring peace from one man to another. Jesus came to bring peace between God and man.
Luke 2:13-14, "And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: 14 " Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!"
The truth of the Gospel does not bring unity. This is why there are so many denominations found in the church, but not in the bible. Yes, the denominations of the church are found no place in scripture just as universalism is found no place in scripture.
Remember, the foundational beliefs of universalism may seem great, but satan would never poison a piece of poop.
Please allow me to leave you with one final set of scripture verses on which to meditate.
2 Timothy 4:3-4, "For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; 4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables."
Needless to say, that time has truly come.
In John 14:6, Jesus did not say, “I am one of the ways to God”, He said, “I am the ONLY way to God”. Any religion or belief system proclaiming ALL will be saved contrary to whether they placed their faith on Jesus or not is completely false.
